Laboratory Manager

**Major duties and responsibilities**: Ensure day-to-day functioning of the lab and assist Principal Investigator (PI) with project management to facilitate the execution of scientific projectsCoordinate lab and field work for a variety of research projects, including organizing personnel, necessary supplies, equipment, and protocols, arranging transportation, etc. Collect and organize data files in a logical, effective, and accessible manner.Contribute to lab safety by organizing MSDS sheets, providing basic lab safety training to new or visiting lab members, maintaining compliance with STRI safety regulations, posting and distributing emergency contact information, etc.Assist PI and other lab members with routine lab tasks, such as labelling and organizing, samples, preparing solutions, etc.Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and coordinated use of equipment and instruments.Inventory and order supplies, track quantities and use by lab membersWith guidance from the PI, preparation of written scientific documents in English and/or Spanish: protocols, material safety datasheets, abstracts, and outreach materialsContribute to the preparation of reports (for example, progress and final reports for grants and scientific permits)Act as liaison between researchers in the lab and other members of the STRI community and external collaborators and colleagues. Represent the laboratory in interdepartmental projects.Help incoming and visiting lab members navigate the STRI registration and onboarding processSupervise small teams and fellows and internsRequirements: Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Business, Communications, or another field relevant to management, administration, and logistics or a degree in a scientific field, but with relevant administrative or project management expertise (required)Project management experience and the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects, with 4+ years of experience managing complex projects (required)4+ years of experience managing teams of people or complex projects related to the sciences or environment (preferred)Knowledge of purchasing procedures and experience tracking and ordering supplies (required)Strong computer skills and demonstrated experience using the computer software applications Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, and PowerPoint (required)Ability to communicate with and relate to a wide range of people fluently in both English and Spanish in a multicultural environment (required) A complete application includes: (1) a cover letter that includes a statement of interest in the position and a summary of your relevant experience; (2) a resume or CV including a list of relevant experiences and/or coursework; and (3) names and contact information for three professional references.
