This temporary position is located in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Field Operations and Technical Cooperation Division, within the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (the “Mission”). The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Mission.

**Responsibilities**:
Within delegated authority, the Digital Forensic Investigator may be responsible for the following duties:

- Plans, organizes conducts and manages online investigations of cases of alleged violations

of international human rights, as well as international humanitarian and international criminal law;
- Searches for, gathers, records and preserves potential or relevant evidence, including in electronic format ensuring that all necessary evidence chains are established and maintained;
- Undertakes verification, authentication, geolocation and analysis of digital content (such as audio, images, videos), and drafts reports;
- Conducts interviews and obtains statements; analyzes information;
- Determines whether matters involve potential fraud, corruption or other illegal or criminal conduct warranting referral to national authorities;
- Participates in briefing and planning conferences with investigation staff;
- Directs and conducts incident response activities. Undertakes or oversees pre-response preparation, reception and recording of incident information, informing appropriate persons/offices during and after response, planning for response, and deployment to and control of the incident scene; preservation of evidence and hand-over of the scene to authoritative persons;
- Implements and maintains established procedures to ensure professional competency and completeness throughout the investigation process;
- Develops or contributes to the development of processes to meet the investigation needs;
- Prepares complete and concise investigation reports and conducts post investigation tasks
- Works collaboratively and in coordination with colleagues to achieve organizational goals in accordance with standard operating procedures and in compliance with organizational regulations and rules;
- Performs other duties as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, international law, criminal investigation, police studies or related fields. A combination of a first-level university degree in the mentioned fields of studies together with formal qualifications and/or certifications in investigations (military, police, federal/national intelligence agencies) and two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Formal qualifications and/or certifications in Investigations (pursuant to a course of study, training and examinations of a state/national law enforcement institution, a national military academy or a federal/national intelligence service training institution, supplemented with professional development courses and/or certifications involving study, training and examinations in investigatory work) in combination with four additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the first-level university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years (seven for holders of a first-level university degree) of full-time progressively responsible experience in investigatory work is required.

Experience with international investigation activities is required.

Experience in researching, collecting, analysing, verifying open source and social media data is desirable.

Experience with international tribunals or UN Investigative bodies is desirable.

Experience in or on South / Central America is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and Spanish are required.
