**Position Details Job Number**: 25-2023 Category: Marketing/Advancement Title: Advancement Manager 2023 Date Posted: 06-27-2023 13:06 PM Description: You will have some of the following responsibilities: Advancement Office Duties -In cooperation with staff from the Division of Advancement (includes Special Events and VIP Guest Management), strategically plans and coordinates activities with select, targeted groups of current and potential donors to engage and educate them on the mission of STRI (Smithsonian Tropical research Institute) and its benefits/impact to Panama and solicit for philanthropic support. The Advancement Division also works closely with the staff scientists, the Communications Team, External Affairs, and the Director's office. -Researches and seeks connection with potential donors for STRI projects from corporations, foundations or individuals, focusing mainly on prospects located in Panama, STRI´s host country, and on corporate sustainability. Develop corporate giving strategy, set of policies, and cultivation tools for local corporate prospects.
- In coordination with the Associate Director of Advancement, assist in planning, organizing, coordinating, and supervising staff in Panama in the daily operations of various advancement activities including, but not limited to, gift processing, acknowledgement process review, PO implementation, donor database management and pipeline review, and board reporting, evaluating data submitted for consistency and accuracy. -Independently prepares, participates, or assists with the preparation, as appropriate, of a variety of written materials, including letters, proposals, reports, marketing material and brochures. Assists in the preparation of interim and final technical reports for grant stewardship. Also, develops correspondence to companies, corporations and individuals prior to and after meetings to ensure communications are consistent.
- Assists with the compilation of statistics for the budget and drafts narrative justifying requests. Develops and manages systems to track proposal deadlines and report requirements to assist with notification and support of the appropriate staff. -Collaborate with STRI staff in the design of public program strategies in sync with local and donor's needs. Board Management -Serves at the point of contact with the Fundación Smithsonian de Panamá and Coordinates their activities; cultivates strong relationships that encourage and maintain member engagement with STRI´s development and research activities.
- Manages the FSP annual unrestricted contribution solicitation and stewardship process and serves as a liaison between the donor and the Institute. -Executes, manages and reviews FSP trust budgets, focusing on resource allocation, proper obligation of funds and reconciliation. Analyzes and summarizes information, tracks and monitors funds, and makes appropriate recommendations on usage. Institutional Relations (Panama) -Develops new corporate and foundation relationships in Panama, through systematic contact, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies and creates a strong relationship with corporate sustainability prospects in order to maintain their engagement with STRI development and activities.

Helps develops program policy and procedures as required. -Develops in-depth knowledge of assigned program areas, including current issues and key resource people and organizations, and a clear understanding of how they fit into STRI and the donor's interests. Develops and maintains adequate resource files for assigned program areas. -Supports STRI's relationship and financial asks to governments and international agencies ( SENACYT, IADB).

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements: -Strong verbal and written communication skills required in both English and Spanish. -Knowledge of fundraising strategies, principles and techniques needed for promoting the organization's programs and developing prospects into donors. -Ability to research prospects and match their interests with the organizational programs and calibrate shared project information appropriately according to donors' preference. -Ability to interact diplomatically, effectively and independently, both in Panama and internationally, with a variety of people serving governments, NGOs, Universities and other organizations.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client, investment and SI information -Ability to establish appropriate priorities, work on multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines -Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with people having different interests. -Highly proficient in Word, Excel and other Microsoft programs. Experience with a donor database system preferred. -A minimum of 3-5 years of fundraising experience in a multi-cultural environment, preferred, but equivalent experience in similar fields can be considered.
