**Organizational Context**:
Migration movements in LAC are not new. The crisis in Venezuela generated the second-largest displacement of people after the one in Syria and has been receiving far less international attention and resources. At the same time, since some time ago, there has been a large and growing population of Haitians that are migrating to South America, while large numbers of persons from many different origins are moving from the Northern Triangle of Central America into Mexico and towards the United States, and from Nicaragua into Costa Rica. Despite the fluctuations in the flows, the situation is far from improving. The number of people migrating through the region continues to increase dramatically with an equally significant increase in origins and nationalities.

Migrants, regardless of their legal status, are entitled to the right to health and the principles of humanity, impartiality, and non-discrimination. However, access to healthcare services for migrants along migratory routes and receiving countries is often limited, and their health needs are usually unmet or underserved.

Providing medical services to migrants presents a unique set of challenges that healthcare systems and organizations must address, among others:

- Language and Cultural Barriers: Migrants often come from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Communicating effectively with patients who may not speak the local language can hinder the delivery of quality healthcare. Language barriers can result in misunderstandings, misdiagnoses, and inadequate treatment. Additionally, cultural differences may affect healthcare-seeking behaviors and patients' understanding of medical practices, leading to challenges in providing appropriate care.
- Limited Access to Healthcare: Migrants, particularly undocumented or irregular migrants, may face barriers to accessing healthcare services. They may lack health insurance or legal status, making it difficult for them to seek medical attention. This limited access can result in delayed or insufficient treatment, worsening health conditions, and potential public health risks.
- Legal and Policy Issues: Migrants' eligibility for healthcare services often depends on local laws and policies. In some cases, migrants may not have access to the same level of healthcare as citizens or legal residents. Legal restrictions and uncertainty about entitlements can create confusion and deter migrants from seeking medical care, even when eligible.
- Trauma and Mental Health Challenges: Many migrants have experienced traumatic events, such as conflict, violence, or displacement, which can profoundly affect their mental health. Access to mental health services may be limited, and healthcare providers may lack cultural competency or training to address the specific needs of migrant populations. Treating trauma and mental health challenges requires specialized care and support systems.
- Infectious Disease Control: Migrants may be at higher risk of infectious diseases due to overcrowded living conditions, limited access to hygiene facilities, and exposure during migration. Providing appropriate healthcare, screening, and vaccinations to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases among migrant populations can be challenging, especially in resource-constrained settings.
- Continuity of Care: Migrants often move across regions or countries, disrupting the continuity of their medical care. Lack of medical records, difficulty transferring information between healthcare providers, and different healthcare systems can hinder the provision of continuous and coordinated care for migrant patients.

**Job Purpose**:

- Stigmatization and Discrimination: Migrants may face social stigma, discrimination, and xenophobia, including within healthcare settings. This can create barriers to seeking care, resulting in substandard treatment when they access healthcare services. Overcoming these biases and promoting a culturally sensitive and inclusive healthcare environment is crucial to ensuring equitable care for migrants.
- Addressing these challenges requires a comprehensive and coordinated approach involving healthcare providers, policymakers, and communities. It involves ensuring language services, cultural competency training for healthcare professionals, improving access to healthcare for migrants, addressing legal and policy barriers, and promoting inclusive and non-discriminatory healthcare environments for all individuals, regardless of their migration status.

Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is a regional actor with a presence in all the countries of the migration route. The RCRC movement is uniquely posit
