Peace Corps has over 25 years of experience working in Panama in four project areas: Sustainable Agriculture Systems, Health & Well Being, Community Environmental Conservation, and Youth Leadership Development.

**Program Summary and Context**:
The purpose of the Sustainable Agricultural Systems (SAS) project is to work in collaboration with Panamanian agencies, community members, and youth to tackle the main causes of malnutrition through work with staple crops and agroforestry, and support family agricultural producers through the adoption of small business practices. In addition, Volunteers in this program support the community’s leadership and empowerment, promotion of nutritious food, and organizational development working with cooperatives and associations. Volunteers accomplish this by working in partnership with their community members and Panamanian government agencies, such as Ministry of Agriculture (Ministerio de Desarrollo de Agropecuario - MIDA)

Some examples of volunteer activities may include one-on-one field-based instruction, as well as co-facilitate and co-train farmers on key topics including soil and water conservation, integrated pest management, technologies to conserve, store, and transform agricultural products to add value, small agribusiness and organizational development, and nutrition. Through a variety of educational activities and events, Volunteers raise awareness and support strengthening community members’ skill set to respond to increase food security and mitigate malnutrition.

**Position Summary**:
The PT Specialist serves as a member of the Programming and Training Unit (PTU) staff and is responsible for supporting the planning, development, implementation and administration of the Peace Corps programming and training system for the Sustainable Agricultural Systems Program.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Provide overall administrative and programmatic support to the Sustainable Agricultural Systems Program.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager in maintaining and developing relationships with strategic partners, including government and non-government organizations.
- Design a development training program and facilitate participatory learning experiences for US American Volunteers in areas of agricultural production and agribusiness technical skills, grass-roots development and successful collaboration with Panamanian work partners and communities.
- Provide continual technical training, coaching, mentoring monitoring, and feedback during site visits, phone calls, WhatsApp messages and in-person appointments to support Volunteers’ development of professional competencies to effectively serve their assigned communities under the SAS program.
- Carry out site identification and Volunteer visits throughout the country along with the Program Manager supporting with the preparation of programmatic reports to be shared with PC headquarters, Host Country and donor agencies, as required.
- Based in Panama City, travels 35-45% of time to the interior visiting Volunteers and counterparts; requiring the ability to drive 4X4 manual transmission vehicle on rough roads and a willingness to travel to and hike in remote areas of Panama.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Required Qualifications**:

- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture (Engineer or Agronomist), Agribusiness, Agriculture Education, or a related technical field
- Experience in the field:

- At least 2 years of experience working directly with programs in rural agriculture or development setting.
- At least 2 years of experience working on designing & facilitating training sessions for adults. Must possess excellent facilitation skills (in both Spanish and English).
- Driving: A valid driver’s license and stated availability to travel (driving 4x4 official vehicles with manual transmissions, often on rough roads).
- Language Proficiency: Speaks, reads, and writes Spanish and English (minimum working knowledge of English). Communication skills with Indigenous language Ngäbere will be a plus.
- Schedule: Ability to work a Monday through Friday schedule with evening and weekend hours when necessary and during emergencies, including traveling throughout Panama at times. Ability to travel, spending 35%-45% of time working in the “interior”/ rural areas, often under harsh conditions, including hiking long distances.
