The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

The Latin America and the Caribbean Office located in Panama City works closely with the 33 countries of the region - including 16 small island developing States, with a population of about 650 million people. The office works to serve the needs of the region and its activities are integrated into the work programs approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly of UN Environment (UNEA).

The overall objective of the Ecosystems Division is to support countries in conserving, restoring and sustainably managing their terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems, the biodiversity they contain and the products and services they provide for human well-being and prosperity. It addresses the environmental causes and consequences of disasters and conflicts. It helps countries reduce pollution from land-based activities, increase resilience to climate change and reflect linkages between poverty and the environment in their development planning.

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, in the Latin America and the Caribbean Office, the intern(s) will be supporting the integrated and systematic monitoring of the following projects and initiatives under the ecosystem division: Paraguay+Verde, FOLUR y AbE Chaco.

One (or more) intern(s) is sought for a three-month internship period. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a Programme Management Officer in Paraguay.

Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

**Responsibilities**:
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the direct supervision of the of the Programme Management Officer in Paraguay, the intern will be:

- Supporting the collection and visualization of data related to the monitoring and evaluation of the projects.
- Assisting in categorizing, updating, tracking and analysing data related to projects.
- Collaborating with managers and personnel on reporting of project data
- Contributing to manage databases and dashboards
- Providing inputs on thematic maps with GEO/Spatial data and technologies.
- Liaising with relevant parties on the selection of project indicators and interpretation
- Assisting in tracking status of achievements of project outputs in UN official platforms and reporting instruments.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
