GIFTY TALENT PROGRAMS COORDINATOR

Purpose of Role

Promote the academic, emotional, and social success of all students by leading the development, coordination, and implementation of support services and enrichment programs. This role ensures that students' diverse needs are met through equitable access to wellness initiatives, mental health support, and gifted and talented education opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leading Department
- Supervising or managing a team or department
- Setting goals and evaluating performance
- Coaching, mentoring, or training team members
- Making decisions and solving problems
- Communicating with other leaders or departments
- Being accountable for results

2. Academic Support
- Identify students who are struggling and coordinate support services.
- Help students develop effective study habits, time management, and goal-setting skills.
- Monitor academic progress and assist with course selection and planning.
- Provide one-on-one or group counseling to help students manage emotions, build self-esteem, and resolve personal issues.
- Promote conflict resolution, bullying prevention, and peer relationship skills.
- Support students during life changes (e.g., family issues, grief, transitions).
- Respond to student crises (e.g., suicidal ideation, abuse disclosures, sudden trauma).
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and mental health professionals to ensure student safety and well-being.
- Work closely with teachers, parents, administrators, and outside agencies to support student success.
- Maintain strict confidentiality, following school policies and legal guidelines.
- Uphold ethical standards outlined by professional bodies (e.g., ASCA - American School Counselor Association).

3. Gifty Talent Program
- Identify students with exceptional abilities or high potential through a combination of assessments, teacher referrals, and performance data.
- Provide personalized learning pathways that match students' strengths, interests, and learning styles.
- Offer enrichment opportunities both inside and outside the classroom (e.g. advanced projects, competitions, innovation labs, mentorship).
- Encourage development of critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and creativity.
- Support students’ social-emotional needs, ensuring they feel challenged, supported, and engaged.
- Partner with teachers and parents to create inclusive and supportive learning environments for gifted learners.

4. Creative Activity Service (CAS)
- Develop, implement, and manage the school’s CAS program in alignment with IB guidelines.
- Keep detailed records of counseling sessions, referrals, and parent communications.
- Track student progress and follow up on interventions.
- Provide orientation and training for students and staff about CAS expectations and learning outcomes.
- Guide students in designing, executing, and reflecting on their CAS experiences and projects.
- Monitor students’ progress through individual interviews, reflection journals, and project proposals.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records on student participation using the school’s CAS tracking system.
- Liaise with teachers, parents, community organizations, and external partners to support CAS activities.
- Ensure the CAS program supports student well-being, personal development, and ethical engagement.
- Prepare reports and participate in IB evaluations or inspections related to the CAS program.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Education, Counseling, Special Education, or a related field.
- Minimum five years’ experience leading a psychology department.
- Experience working directly with students in areas such as School counseling, Special education, Gifted and talented programs or and Student wellness or well-being initiatives.
- Familiarity with IB programmes, especially CAS and holistic education models
- Communication skills
- Speak English and Spanish
