BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (LACRO) provide strategic guidance, policy support, and oversight to WFP operations in the region. The Agri-Food Systems Project aims to strengthen value chains and market access for smallholder farmers in the Darién and Comarca regions.

JOB PURPOSE

This WFP Volunteer will support the implementation and monitoring of project activities, contributing to the development of sustainable and inclusive agri-food systems.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Monitor value chains from the perspective of beneficiary producer associations, including:

Tracking production, both formal and informal marketing,

Ensuring compliance with market standards,

Assessing losses in the supply chain for tubers (yam, cassava, taro), plantain, and vegetables.

Analyze local and national market behavior by:

Monitoring prices,

Preparing monthly reports to understand market dynamics,

Identifying opportunities for improvement,

Supporting strategic decision-making within the project.

Support the team in:

Monitoring training sessions on sustainable practices and governance,

Evaluating the implementation of these practices by beneficiary associations.

Other tasks as required by the supervisor or project needs.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:

·  At least one year of experience in agricultural economics, project implementation focused on market access for smallholder farmers, and analysis of food value chains and markets.

·  Data collection, monitoring, and reporting.

·  Effective communication and teamwork.

·  Ability to work independently and in field conditions.

EDUCATION:

University student or recent graduate in agricultural economics, agricultural engineering, or other related disciplines.

LANGUAGES:

Excellent command of Spanish and English proficiency is an asset.
