**FIELD OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN**

Install, provision, test, troubleshoot, splice, and maintain high-speed fiber optic transmission equipment and telecommunications circuits supporting service delivery. Perform and assist with the maintenance and configuration of all core technologies deployed.

**Responsibilities**:

- Install, turn-Up, Test and Provision SONET, WDM and Ethernet equipment in an optical fiber network adhering to engineered design.
- Work with Fiber Optic, SONET, Ethernet and SDH related test equipment including OTDR, PMD,CD, Optical Spectrum Analyzer, BER Test Sets, Sniffers.
- Perform site survey of remote locations to ensure quality installation of all racks, equipment power plants, fiber cable, etc. Report all defects to the Operations Manager and /or OSP Project Engineer.
- Label and tag all equipment and cabling according to Network Engineering Diagrams.
- Perform advanced analysis and troubleshooting of problems / issues while assisting the NOC and customers.
- Participate in on-call rotation schedule for nights and weekends.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required and assigned.
- Perform both hardware and software updates and/or changes to remote site equipment as necessary.
- Complete and maintain electronic records of work completed on various assignments.
- Interface with customers and carriers in support of service delivery and assurance.
- Work independently for extended periods of time.
- Respond to Customer Troubles on 24-hour basis.
- Work closely with the NOC, Sales, Engineering, and customers
- Uses vendor's technical manuals (printed or electronic) to find pertinent information regarding operation/maintenance of equipment
- Install and test optical jumpers.
- Perform fiber analysis functions for splice activities, fault locating/fiber restoration, and new turn-ups, by utilizing OTDR and power meter equipment.

**Job Requirements**:

- Understand the fundamentals of AC and DC power, DC power plants and Battery backup.
- Read and interpret engineering documentation including but not limited to Scope of Work (SOW) and Engineer Design Package (EDP); while being able to communicate feedback and provide corrections through redlining.
- Interpret, follow, and critique method of procedure (MOP) related to any job function or equipment for which technicians are responsible.
- Able to read and make update with as-built drawings and other Engineering documents.
- Possess strong to high technical skill level at equipment installation with knowledge of Telcordia Central Office/Network Environment Equipment Installation/Removal Generic Requirements (GR-1275-CORE).
- Excellent technical telecommunication knowledge of inside plant environment, fiber, DWDM, SONET, IP, Ethernet, and switching technologies with troubleshooting and installation experience in these technologies
- Able to work a flexible schedule and must provide support for on-call rotation and be able to respond after-hours, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to climb and work from ladders exceeding 6 feet
- Must be able to perform strenuous physical activities including, but not limited to moving objects weighing at least 100 pounds.
- Must pass drug screening and background check randomly
- Ability to perceive differences in telecom wire and cable colors.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activities including, but not limited to lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds.
- Requires a valid state drivers’ license with current satisfactory driving record.
- Willing to travel 50%
- Ability to work in confined spaces (e.g., attics, crawl spaces, utility holes).
- Able to obtain and keep a Top-Secret government security clearance to support government programs in the area
- Spanish language is a plus
