Org. Setting and Reporting
- This temporary position is located in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, within the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (the “FFM”). The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Coordinator of the FFM Secretariat and the direct supervision of the Reporting Officer.
- Responsibilities
- Within delegated authority, the Human Rights Officer/ Analyst will be responsible for the following duties: -Conducts substantive research and analysis of information and documentation pertaining to human rights and international criminal law matters -Employs monitoring and mapping tools and multi-source, including open sources material and satellite imagery, to support geolocation of incidents and to assess the authenticity of collected materials and testimonies -Collects and analyses human rights data and indicators in country/region of assignment, including gender-specific data and indicators -Prepares briefings, interview notes and analytical documents as required - Participates in the coordination of activities related to the FFM and in the definition of the work plan for the area assigned in accordance with established terms of reference -Drafts under the supervision of the Reporting Officer a variety of reports, communications, letters, briefings, statements, etc -Assists in drawing analytical conclusions, proposes the structure of reports and visualisation of the FFM’s findings and conclusions and assists in developing actionable and gender sensitive recommendations -Performs other related duties as required.

- Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced University degree.

- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area is required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in information and evidence analysis, including in international criminal law investigations, political sensitive environments or similar positions, is desirable. Experience working with an international court or tribunal, or other investigative mechanism is desirable.
- Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the position advertised, fluency in English and Spanish (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
