**Responsibilities**:
Background
Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 100 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with United Nations Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community.
The consultant will work under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of office of the UNDRR regional office for the Americas and the Caribbean.
**Responsibilities**:
The incumbent will carry out the following duties and responsibilities:
a. Support for the UNDRR regional office:
- Support the actions and programmes developed by the UNDRR regional office in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama and Uruguay and other countries of the Americas and the Caribbean region.
- Assist in drafting and preparing background documents, reports, issue briefs, talking points, articles, presentations etc.
- Support the organization of internal and external meetings, side events, webinars and expert group meetings.
- Assist in preparing training and learning events and other capacity building initiatives for DRR (Disaster Risk Reduction).
- Support the organization trainings events to strengthen strategic engagement with UN system partners.
- Support research and analysis on DRR-related topics (nature-based solutions, gender, etc.).
- Support the work of the Latin American and the Caribbean Network of Women for Disaster Risk Reduction.
- Support actions aimed at integrating the disaster risk reduction and resilience agenda with the climate change and promoting nature-based solutions at a national, subnational and local level.
b. Support for the MCR2030 initiative:
- Promote and support the coordination of MCR2030 activities at national and subnational level.
- Support the drafting and implementation of the Gender Addendum for the Disaster Resilience Scorecard tool.
- Provide support with the sign-up process to increase the number of participating cities and entities in the MCR2030 Dashboard.
- Support capacity development events in the region for national and/or subnational and local governments within the framework of the MCR2030 initiative.
- Support communication efforts to ensure an effective outreach and dissemination of MCR2030 activities.
- Support the implementation of MCR2030 programs with special emphasis in coastal and panamazonian cities.
- Support the development of a legislative framework template directed at strengthening disaster risk governance in subnational
