The Director, Clinical Operations within Global Monitoring and Site Engagement (GMASE) will provide leadership, oversight, development, direction, and co-ordination of the local clinical operations team and will be accountable for the quality of country clinical operations activities within the region of CARICAM/Andina.

An in-depth understanding of the local health care environment, strong leadership capabilities, and proactivity are required.

The individual in the role requires a high level of knowledge, experience, and network to represent GSK R&D within the local environment.

The role holder will also ensure successful delivery of the clinical studies across all therapy areas (Vaccines and Pharmaceuticals) to required timelines, quality and budget.

The individual will be accountable for the activities run by a third party in his/her country and in any assigned country/ies.

  • Conducts budget review and adjusts as needed, ensures robust budget forecast and management.
  • Ensures appropriate resource planning based on forecast workload, develops resource strategies also considering EPE resources, ensures effective resource utilization within the team.
  • Interacts effectively with stakeholders. Actively engages with local industry partners and regulatory stakeholders to maintain and influence a positive operational environment for clinical trials in the country.
  • Establishes and manages key strategic relationships with external vendors to ensure clinical studies are appropriately resourced and executed as necessary.
  • Leads or participates in regional/global clinical operations projects.
  • Ensures robust feasibility and effective study delivery considering local strategy/objectives.
  • Leads a team of up to 12 direct reports. Evaluates team ́s performance, effectively manages underperformance, implements appropriate performance improvement as well as development plans, mentors and coaches direct reports to ensure their delivery of assigned tasks to agreed timelines, quality standards and budget.
  • Implements appropriate oversight process/procedures to detect emerging risks, appropriate intervention to address trends and issues that could impact delivery to plan for timelines, quality and budget of studies. Has oversight of Local Business Continuity Plans (BCPs).

  • We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:_
  • University Scientific degree or equivalent experience with line and project management experience. Any general science degree e.g. life science, medicine, clinical research degree, pharmacy etc.
  • 8+ years of clinical research or medical affairs with clinical operation experience.
  • Proficient in English (verbal and written)
  • 2+ years of experience of change management and leading teams through change.
  • Line and project management experience
  • In depth knowledge of drug development process including both vaccines and pharmaceuticals development
  • Experience managing budgets

Preferred Qualifications_:

Masters of Science, PhD or equivalent, coupled preferably with previous line management experience.
