The critical role of the United Nations Development Coordination Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNDCO LAC) is to provide leadership, strategic guidance, and support to Resident Coordinators (RCs) and UN Country Teams (UNCTs) for the achievement of country-level results in the region.

This position is in the Regional Desk for Latin America and the Caribbean in the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO). The incumbent reports to the Senior Regional Coordination Officer. The position is based in Panama City, Panama.

**Responsibilities**:
Within delegated authority, the Advisor will be responsible for the following duties:

- Works with a multidisciplinary team and the DCO LAC Peace and Development and PSG focal point to support the development and review of periodic subregional and regional cross-pillar analyses for prevention and their integration into CCAs and CCA updates.
- Conducts research and conflict analysis with respect to various countries, identifying emerging trends related to democratic governance, peace and conflict in the region.
- Writes papers, policy briefs, and notes with strategic analysis and policy recommendations. Generates survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyses, interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
- Advances DCO LAC-wide knowledge management by consolidating, systematising and sharing best practices from the region and at the global level.
- Captures lessons learned and good practices from regional RCOs that can be systematised and shared through DCO and UNSDG-related global knowledge platforms.
- , conflict prevention policy recommendations,Engages in the development of conceptual frameworks and concept notes on new areas of work or development challenges.
- Performss surge assignments, in support of and collaboration with RCs/UNCTs, by planning and facilitating workshops and assist in organising regional/subregional inter-agency panels, round tables or events on work covered by the DCO LAC team.
- Organizes and prepares written outputs(briefing notes, summaries of meetings, draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.) work covered by the DCO LAC team.
- Provides substantive backstopping in respect to consultative and other exercises, proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparing documents and presentations, etc., on issues related to the United Nations System Development reform and its implementation in the region.
- Keeps abreast of the latest emerging trends and innovative approaches for policy/normative work and system coherence in the Resident Coordination System.
- Initiates and coordinates outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, and presentations on assigned topics/activities.
- Leads and participates in field missions, including guiding external consultants, supporting government officials and other parties, drafting mission summaries, etc.
- Maintains databases and monitoring tools for the DCO LAC workplan implementation.
- Performs other duties as required.

Work implies frequent interaction with the following:
Establish and maintain relationships with counterparts, senior officers and technical staff in relevant Secretariat units and UN funds, programs and other UN specialised agencies; Representatives and officials in national governments, international organisations, and consultants.

Results Expected:
Conducts research, identifies significant trends, and writes analyses and recommendations, related to areas of engagement of DCO LAC, including governance, peace and conflict prevention. Demonstrates timely delivery of outputs in accordance with overall objectives and policies.

Writes proficiently in English and Spanish and engages in socio-economic and broader development analysis. Participates in conflict analysis and related frameworks, advances foresight analysis, and creates a repository of good practices and lessons learnt. Efficiently maintain knowledge management, information systems, and databases used by the DCO LAC team. Successfully organises regional events and meetings led by DCO LAC and engages in the monitoring of the DCO LAC work plan.
