Role Overview

This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive financial excellence and business growth. As a Financial Operations Specialist, you will be responsible for preparing and filing state sales tax returns, general accounting, analysis and reconciliations for various Grainger business units.

Main Responsibilities

  • Prepare and File State Sales Tax Returns: Prepare and file 80+ state sales tax returns on a monthly basis by the specified due dates.
  • Facilitate Sales Tax Audits: Help facilitate sales tax audits and provide all documentation requested by state auditors.
  • Implement New Sales Tax Software: Assist management in implementing a new sales tax software to enhance return preparation efficiency and control.
  • Resolve Sales Tax Reporting Notices: Assist in resolving any sales tax reporting notices.
  • Ensure Accurate Accounting Entries: Ensure all appropriate accounting entries are made in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Reconcile Balance Sheet and Income Statement Accounts: Reconcile various balance sheet and income statement accounts on a monthly basis, investigating reconciling items and resolving them in a timely manner.
  • Analyze Financial Data: Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts to identify variances and explain underlying business reasons for changes in activity.
  • Communicate Financial Information: Clearly communicate explanations and support with respect to external consultant (audit) and internal management information requests.
  • Cross-Train and Provide Backup: Cross-train with and provide backup for other members of the Shared Services Accounting team.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure that Company financial policies, procedures and controls are followed.
  • Safeguard Company Assets: Take appropriate steps to safeguard company assets and ensure that all financial books and records are maintained in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Enhance Financial Controls: Ensure that financial controls and processes throughout the business are adequate to ensure the effectiveness of the internal control environment.
  • Ensure Timely Financial Close: Ensure that all monthly, quarterly and annual financial close activities, financial reporting, analysis, audit activities and tax filings are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Identify Continuous Improvement Opportunities: Evaluate continuous improvement opportunities and implement initiatives as needed to streamline and enhance processes and reduce costs.
  • Establish Close Relationships: Establish and maintain close working relationships with all internal and external business Partners.

Requirements

  • Fluency in English and Spanish: Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
  • CPA or Equivalent: CPA or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 3 Years of Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in public accounting, internal audit or related large corporate accounting/finance experience required; Multinational company experience preferred.
  • Strong Knowledge: Strong knowledge about US GAAP, sales tax accounting, payroll accounting, AP & AR processes, cash reconciliations, capital assets is required.
  • Proven Analytical Skills: Proven analytical skills and ability to recognize and explain unusual trends.
  • Problem-Solving: Independently problem-solve and be able to determine root cause and develop action plans to resolve issues.
  • Process-Oriented: Must be process-oriented and be able to understand processes from start to finish.
  • Advanced Excel Skills: StroAdvanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Agility and Adherence to Deadlines: Must be able to shift focus easily and draw conclusions timely as business needs arise, and adhere to deadlines specially during tax filing and month end close periods.
  • SAP Experience: SAP experience highly desired.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Estimated Salary: The estimated salary for this position is around $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on location and experience.

Location: This role is based in Grainger's shared service office in Panama Pacifico.
