UNDP, as we know it now, was established in 1966 by the General Assembly of the United Nations.
UNDP started its activities in Panama in 1973, since then UNDP has supported the management, implementation and execution of programs and projects for the benefit of the people. Our team in Panama is made up of about eighty people who accompany the projects in all their phases, from design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as positioning, visibility and communication: providing technical assistance, as well as operational and administrative services. Position Purpose Under the overall guidance of the Operations Manager and direct supervision of the Administrative Associate, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to UNDP RR and other high-ranking UN officials and visitors ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Upon request of the supervisor, the Driver can be also required to provide driving services to the operations and programme staff in the CO, Consultants and Experts and UN staff on mission. Duties and Responsabilities 1. Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services Driving office vehicles for the transport of UNDP Senior Management team and other high-ranking officials and visitors and delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items, and Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport including visa and customs formalities arrangement when required. 2.
Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle Accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports; ensures timely annual vehicle inspection. 3. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle Timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc. 4.
Assists with photocopying, sorting and distribution of reports etc. 6. Carries out other administrative and logistics tasks as required by the supervisor. Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities: N/A Requirements Education Secondary High School Education and valid Driver’s license (C category).
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills 3 years of work experience as a driver at the national or international level with a safe driving record; knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair. Desirable experience in driving office vehicles for the transport of senior management personnel or other high-ranking officials and visitors. Desirable experience in driving, sedan, and 4x4 drive vehicles. Desirable knowledge of car mechanics and maintenance.
Desirable experience in preparation, control, and handling of documentation and forms and administrative experience. Desirable experience in UN agencies or projects. Desirable experience in an international organization or Embassy is an asset. Desirable experience in the use of computers, MS Office package, and similar.
Desirable to have courses on safe driving. Language requirements Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish are required.
