hace 1 semana
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.
The Latin America and the Caribbean Office located in Panama City works closely with the 33 countries of the region - including 16 small island developing States, with a population of about 650 million people. The office works to serve the needs of the region and its activities are integrated into the work programs approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly of UN Environment (UNEA).
The overall objective of the Regional Direction is to lead and coordinate the implementation of the programme of work of UNEP in the region, to gather and process political intelligence, and to maintain a close working relationship with the governments of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). This includes responsibility for the activities around the Forum of Ministers of Environment of LAC.
The Forum is the longest standing and most important space for political dialogue and collaboration among the countries of the region in the environmental field. It also generates the inputs from the region into the UNEA.
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer in the Latin America and the Caribbean Office, the intern(s) will support the implementation of the activities of the Forum, including regular meetings of the Bureau, the High-Level Officers, the Interagency Technical Committee, and the regular communications with Forum authorities, as well as the general public.
The Internship is for 6 months and UNPAID. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
**Responsibilities**:
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period.
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer in the Regional Direction of the Latin America and the Caribbean Office, the intern will be supporting the Forum of Ministers of Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean, and its related activities.
The detailed tasks include:
- Contribute to the identification and processing of information related to the priorities of the countries of the region with regards to the environment.
