The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

The Latin America and the Caribbean Office located in Panama City works closely with the 33 countries of the region - including 16 small island developing States, with a population of about 650 million people. The office works to serve the needs of the region and its activities are integrated into the work programs approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly of UN Environment (UNEA).

The establishment of a UNEP Office in April 2004 in Brasilia is part of a decentralization strategy aimed at responding more effectively to environmental priorities at national and sub-national levels and to assist in building capacities to address emerging issues, new development challenges and to contribute to combat poverty. To enhance its outreach and convert actions into concrete results, UNEP Brazil works with a wide range of partners, including government institutions, non-governmental organizations, private and academic sectors as well as bilateral and multilateral agencies.

The overall objective of the Communication unit at the Brazil Country Office is to support UNEP's mission, strengthen the visibility of the organization and raise public awareness on environmental issues.

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Officer, in the Brazil Country Office, the intern will support the development and implementation of larger communication strategies and efforts, including activities related to media and press, public information, outreach, partnerships, institutional communication, and operations.

One intern is sought for a six-month internship period. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Brazil Office.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.

Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern.

**Responsibilities**:
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the direct supervision of the of the Senior Programme Officer, of the Brazil Country Office, the intern will be supporting the following projects and initiatives:

- Support the development and implementation of larger communication strategies and efforts, including activities related to media and press, public information, outreach, partnerships, institutional communication, and operations.
- Support other activities of the Country Office as requested.
- Assist staff in the organization and implementation of outreach events, workshops, seminars and missions.
- Assist in maintain and regularly update UNEP Brazil's website and social medias;
- Collect background information and contribute to the preparation of stories, infographics, newsletters, reports, minutes of meetings, project documents and communication products;
- Support maintaining the office’s mailing list updated and contribute to the office network expansion strategies.
- Support in the development of audiovisual materials, design products and presentations;
- Translate communications materials when necessary;
- Support with Clipping and relationship with media;
- Assist in the organization of publications, data and files upon request;
- Assist the Communication Focal Point in gathering information relevant to the Office Representative in the elaboration of documents and analysis;
- Perform other clerical tasks as required
