As a Secondary Language Arts Teacher, you play a crucial role in shaping the literary skills, critical thinking abilities, and communication prowess of students. Your primary responsibility is to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters a deep appreciation for literature, language, and effective communication.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Literature, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
- Teaching certification or licensure
- Demonstrated expertise in language arts instruction, curriculum development, and assessment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Passion for literature, language, and education
- Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students
- Experience working with secondary students
CONTENT SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Give instruction in area(s) of assignment.
- Assist in development and revisions of curriculum in content area.
- Participate in department, content, and grade level meetings as required.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engage in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills.
- Keep abreast of developments in instructional methodology, learning theory, curriculum trends and content.
- Conduct a personal assessment periodically to determine professional development needs with reference to specific instructional assignment.
- Develop and implement a Professional Growth Plan annually in accordance with the School requirements.
- Act in a professional and ethical manner and adhere to professional standards at all times, in accordance with the Professional Standard outlined in the School's Professional Growth and Evaluation Plan.

- Maintain confidentiality of student and other professional information.
- Comply with policies, procedures and programs.
- Support school improvement initiatives by active participation in school committees, school activities, services and programs.

INSTRUCTIONAL PLANNING: Preparation & Organization
- Create or select long-range and daily plans based on a review of MDA curriculum priorities, student profiles and instructional priorities. Ensure goals, objectives, appropriate pace and sequencing, accommodations and differentiation.
- Plan and prepare lessons and instructional strategies which support the school improvement plan and the School's mission. Provision For Individual Differences
- Plan and prepare a variety of learning activities considering individual student’s culture, learning styles, special needs, and socio-economic background.
- Select, develop, modify and/or adapt materials and resources which support learning objectives and address students’ varying learning styles, backgrounds and special needs.
- Provide feedback to students about the appropriateness of responses and quality of work with a focus on improving student performance.
- Adhere to individualized student plans.
Technology Integration
- Use appropriate material, technology and resources to help meet learning needs of all students.
- Become proficient with the School's classroom technology such as Google Classroom, BrainPop, etc. and integrate when possible and appropriate.
- Teach appropriate use of technology (i.e. social media concerns, “valid” internet research, etc.)
- Model tech use both in and out of the classroom.
IMPLEMENTATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES/DELIVERY:
- Identify specific intended learning outcomes which are challenging, meaningful and measurable.
- Ensure that students are engaged in meaningful, relevant learning throughout their class time.
ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT:
- Establish appropriate testing environment and ensure test security.
- Establish and maintain efficient record keeping procedures.
- Develop and use standards
- aligned assessment strategies (traditional and alternative) to assist the continuous development of learners.
- Interpret and use data (including but not limited to standardized and other test results) for diagnosis, instructional planning and program evaluation.
