These natural hazard events include earthquakes, volcanoes, droughts, tropical storms and hurricanes, droughts. Additionally, worsening socio-economic conditions have resulted in an increasing number of people vulnerable and less resilient to shocks. LAC was also the world's most unequal region disproportionally affected by COVID-19 with long-lasting consequences. In the last two years, 13 million people have fallen into hunger in the region, while nearly 30 million more face severe food insecurity compared to 2019, driving the number of moderately to severely food-insecure people to 268 million - more than 40 per cent of the population.

Latin America and the Caribbean hosts more than 18.4 million refugees, asylum-seekers, displaced and stateless people. This figure represents around 20 per cent of people of concern to UNHCR worldwide, with Latin America and the Caribbean hosting more migrants per capita than any other region in the world.OCHA´s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) covers a region inhabited by approximately 660 million people spreading across 48 countries and territories. OCHA ROLAC supports emergency response and preparedness with support directly to national and sub-regional emergency management agencies, as well as through inclusive national and regional humanitarian coordination platforms. Duties and Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of OCHA ROLAC, Coordination Unit, Humanitarian Affairs Officer (P4), working closely with the rest of the OCHA team to facilitate effective Humanitarian Coordination.

Within the presented operational context, the AHAO will help strengthen humanitarian coordination, disaster preparedness, and response at the regional level. Activities include supporting and providing technical advice to regional humanitarian coordination platforms and humanitarian partners on humanitarian affairs and coordination, bolster response readiness capacity, and coordinate emergency response, as needed, ensuring appropriate capacity to plan for and respond to humanitarian issues including proper contingency planning and coordination. The Associate Humanitarian Affairs Officer will be responsible for the following duties: 1. Coordination Monitor and analyze the dynamic humanitarian situation and its operational challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

Support and facilitate OCHA-led humanitarian coordination meetings in Panama. Assisting in organizing workgroups, meetings, conferences, consultations, etc. and following up the coordination meetings' decisions and action points with correspondent stakeholders. Support the coordination officers in establishing partnerships with other humanitarian agencies to plan and monitor complex humanitarian and emergency assistance programs, helping to compile latest findings and lessons learned.

Support the promotion and incorporation of themes related to cross-cutting issues including gender, protection and accountability to affected people in preparedness actions and humanitarian responses. Collaborate during response deployments in support of humanitarian operations. Keep abreast of the latest developments, help liaise with other humanitarian organizations, donors, and government counterparts. 2.

Information Management Assist in the establishment and maintenance of contacts with other humanitarian partners, relevant government counterparts etc. Actively participate in the production of information products on the humanitarian situation. Actively promote, use and support partners in the use of the system developed by OCHA ROLAC (345W) to map partners presence and track their response activities. Assist in establishing appropriate monitoring and reporting mechanisms, ensuring timely dissemination through the multiple existing channels.
