**Background**:
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Placing women's rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States' priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

To support the production and use of gender statistics across Americas and the Caribbean, UN Women is implementing its flagship programme Making Every Woman and Girl Count (Women Count) across the region. Women Count aims to create a radical shift in how gender statistics are used, produced and promoted to inform policy and advocacy on gender equality. In Americas and the Caribbean region, the programme prioritizes three key areas of work, including the creation and use of environment statistics, women’s economic empowerment statistics, and statistics calculated from big data and non-conventional data sources. The Statistics Specialist will support the implementation of Women Count activities pertaining to women’s economic empowerment. In addition, s/he will support the Americas and Caribbean Women’s Economic Empowerment team to implement data elements of the newly developed UN Women Women’s Economic Empowerment Strategy mainly focused and linked to the UN Women Global Gender Equality Accelerators ‘Transform Care’ and ‘Women and the World of Work’.

The Statistics Specialist will report to the Deputy Regional Director and maintain close coordination with the Regional Policy Specialist on Women´s Economic Empowerment, Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean (ACRO). The Specialist will perform activities ranging from the preparation, design, implementation, data processing and completion of surveys, and other forms of data production; the implementation of capacity building and guidance to countries for data production and use; the preparation of reports, knowledge products and programme monitoring documents; and the creation of data and evidence-based policy advise in the area of women’s economic empowerment.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Provide support to the design and implementation of a Regional Strategy on Women’s Economic Empowerment data, including data on the Care Economy and Women and the World of Work**:

- Support the development of Data Strategy on Women Economic Empowerment informed by a mapping of data needs and policy gaps in key priority areas (i.e. Care Economy, Entrepreneurship)
- Develop practical guidance to produce women’s economic empowerment and care-related data across Americas and the Caribbean, including by liaising with key stakeholders.
- Provide substantive inputs to colleagues for the development and implementation women’s economic empowerment data strategy, including for embedding data production and use activities within programmes across offices in priority areas (i.e. care economy, entrepreneurship).
- Develop knowledge products in line with the women’s economic empowerment data strategy, including guidance to promote for example care data uses across UN Women’s offices.

**Provide technical support to Americas and the Caribbean region on the design, implementation, analysis and use of time use surveys, modules and related data collection instruments**:

- Design survey instruments, as needed, to meet the needs of countries in the region for the collection of Time Use data, including additional care-related variables.
- Design and facilitate training on survey design, survey operations, data compilation, analysis and indicator calculation.
- Provide technical support to national statisticians and other government officers to implement Time Use surveys, modules, and surveys for the measurement of care, including for survey implementation, generation of survey reports and related advocacy products.
- Liaise with representatives from national governments and international organizations in the Americas and Caribbean region for joint design and implementation of Time Use surveys and to promote their use, including through the development of satellite accounts, as relevant.
