Regional Director, Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Office

The United Nations Population Fund seeks a highly experienced and visionary leader to serve as the Regional Director of its Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Office. This key role is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership in the Region, with a focus on achieving transformative results in population and development.
As a seasoned professional with over 15 years of experience in public administration and international development, you will be expected to provide expert advice on regional issues to the senior management of UNFPA, while also overseeing the implementation of the regional and country programmes. Your deep understanding of the political, social, and economic landscape of Latin America and the Caribbean will be essential in guiding the work of the Region and of the Regional Office.
About the Role- Provide strategic direction and vision for the Region, aligned with UNFPA's global goals and objectives;
- Lead the development and implementation of regional strategies, including capacity development, technical support delivery, and advocacy;
- Oversee the application of results-based management and quality assurance frameworks and procedures for the work of the Regional Office and Country Offices;
- Maintain effective working relationships with other Regional Offices and HQ Divisions to ensure inter-divisional collaboration and coordination;
- Ensure the efficient and effective use of resources in compliance with UNFPA financial rules, regulations, and procedures;
- Strategic Direction and Planning: Provide overall vision, strategic direction, and exercise leadership in guiding the work of the Region and of the Regional Office;
- Programme Support and Representation: Act as the principal adviser on regional issues to the senior management of UNFPA; Ensure that the Regional Office provides high-quality, integrated programme and technical support in response to the needs of country offices and country programmes;
- Programme Oversight and Results Management: Oversees implementation of the regional and country programmes, ensuring that they reflect country and regional priorities;
- Operational Leadership and Resource Management: Assume overall accountability for the management and work of the Regional Office;
- Advanced degree (preferably PhD) in Public Health, Medicine, Sociology, Demography, Gender, International Relations, International Development, Economics, Public Administration, Management or other related fields;
- Over 15 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in public administration and international development of which 10 years were in the field of population and development at the international level;
- Deep understanding of the political, social, and economic landscape of Latin America and the Caribbean;
- Strong track record of leadership in development programmes;
- Proven ability to lead, develop, and motivate a diverse team of programme specialists to achieve demonstrable results;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish;
- Field experience is essential;
