Latin America Regional Director, Leader in Population Development

The United Nations Population Fund is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as the Director of our Latin America and Caribbean Regional Office. This role presents a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of millions of people across the region.
About the Role:
This senior leadership position oversees the strategic direction, management, and coordination of UNFPA's regional office, ensuring alignment with the organization's global goals and objectives. As the key advisor to the Deputy Executive Director for Programme, you will provide expert guidance on regional issues, programmatic support, and advocacy for the ICPD agenda in SDG/UN programming.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve UNFPA's transformative results in the region
- Lead the Regional Management Team to ensure effective collaboration and coordination among business units, sub-regional offices, and country programs
- Provide high-quality programmatic support, technical assistance, and representation at regional, international, and UNSDG initiatives
- Foster partnerships, alliances, and networks to leverage resources and expertise for sustainable development
- Oversee the implementation of the regional and country programs, ensuring their effectiveness, efficiency, and relevance to national priorities
- Assume overall accountability for the management and work of the Regional Office, promoting a culture of performance, empowerment, and knowledge sharing
Qualifications and Experience:
We seek a highly accomplished professional with a deep understanding of the political, social, and economic landscape of Latin America and the Caribbean. Key qualifications include:
- Advanced degree (preferably PhD) in Public Health, Medicine, Sociology, Demography, Gender, International Relations, International Development, Economics, Public Administration, or related fields
- Minimum 15 years of increasingly responsible experience in public administration and international development, with a strong track record of leadership in development programs
- Proven ability to lead, develop, and motivate diverse teams to achieve demonstrable results
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish; fluency in French and/or Portuguese is an asset
