The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is committed to helping countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a key partner in this effort, we are seeking a skilled Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery Specialist to join our team.

Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced professional to work as a Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support to UNDP Country Offices and partners on disaster risk reduction and recovery initiatives. This includes developing policies, guidelines, and tools to help countries build resilience and reduce disaster risks.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in disaster risk reduction and recovery, with experience in policy development, project management, and partnership building. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, and private sector partners.

This role requires a high level of independence, flexibility, and adaptability, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines. The successful candidate will be based in the Panama Regional Hub, working under the supervision of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Team Leader.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise and support to UNDP Country Offices and partners on disaster risk reduction and recovery initiatives.
  • Develop policies, guidelines, and tools to help countries build resilience and reduce disaster risks.
  • Support the design, implementation, and monitoring of projects and programmes related to disaster risk reduction and recovery.
  • Collaborate with other teams and partners to leverage resources and expertise.
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform policy development and project implementation.

Requirements:

  • Masters degree or equivalent in international development, disaster risk reduction, environmental studies, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in disaster risk reduction and recovery, with a focus on policy development, project management, and partnership building.
  • Experience working with governments, NGOs, and private sector partners in the Latin America and Caribbean region.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct research and analysis.

Salary
